Mick enjoying the excellent local brew La Chouffe (brewed just a couple of miles from Borzée). One of the best beers around. Anywhere. You can quote me on that. Maybe THIS is the place to express my anger about this absolutely ridiculous European regulation that there should be a 'best before' date on a bottle of beer and not a bottling-date.
What am I so annoyed about? Well, the case is, YEARS ago La Chouffe used to have a cap AND a cork on the bottle and on the cork you'd find the exact month and year the bottle was sealed. Yes, you hear me right, a cork, like with wine. Not that strange because this beer IS like wine and it's important to know how old the bottle is.
This kind of beer (there are more beers with the same characteristics) is bottled with a bit of yeast still in the brew, so the beer matures and the taste evolves over time. This kind of beer (and most kinds, actually, instead of what's usually thought) doesn't go off. There IS no 'best before' date, because it only gets better! But nowadays, thanks to the European regulations, you can't tell an absolutely gorgeous three years old La Chouffe from a, still gorgeous but actually a diamond in the rough, three months old. What a waste. GIVE ME MY CORKS BACK!!! Or at least put the bottling date SOMEWHERE on the bottle.
OK, back to pipes now...
